Finding Your Unique Life Balance
Your Heritage Story
I love designing photo books that tell my customers' stories, but I also enjoy making ones about my own family. One is a tribute to my late Mom.
While designing her book, I found out some things that I didn't know. She never advertised the fact that she had a degree in biology. I came to realize how rare that was in 1947, the year that she graduated. Especially rare for women! And that she worked as a lab tech until my older brother was born, when she became a full time homemaker and Mom extraordinaire. In the photo above, you can see that she loved being a Grandma, too. The patience and kindness I tried to model for my kids came straight from her. Then, after I left for colege, my Mom became a registered nurse.
When I watched the Golden Globes on January 6 and Glenn Close won for Best Actress in a Drama, she noted that "We are women and nurturers . . . we have our children, and our husbands if we are lucky enough, our partners, whoever, But we have to find personal fulfillment. We have to follow our dreams."
I thought about how each person has to find his or her unique life balance. It may be different for each person. I'm proud of how my Mom found personal balance in her life, and I want to include that in her Heritage Story. It's a reflection of how her values influenced the woman she was, and the woman I am as well.
